RALPH PUCCI: THE ART OF THE MANNEQUIN

Museum of Art & Design, 2 Columbus Circle, New York, NY

Ralph Pucci: The Art of the Mannequin will be the first museum exhibition to explore the work of renowned New York-based designer Ralph Pucci, who is widely regarded for his innovative approach to the familiar form of the mannequin. Having collaborated with luminaries such as Diane von Furstenberg, Patrick Naggar, Andrée Putman, Kenny Scharf, Anna Sui, Isabel and Ruben Toledo and Christy Turlington, Pucci’s mannequins not only expand the parameters of this ubiquitous sculptural form, but reflect major cultural trends of the past three decades.

VERA PAINTS A RAINBOW

Alexander Gray Associates, 510 West 26th Street

Alexander Gray Associates presents Vera Paints a Rainbow, an exhibition of artworks by Vera Neumann (b.1907, Stamford, CT – d.1993, North Tarrytown, NY), created between the 1960s and 1980s. The presentation focuses on the artist’s use of color as means to express emotions through compositions characterized by a colorful palette. The works on view, organized following the rainbow spectrum—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet—emphasize Neumann’s rich use of color, which in her words, “is a marvelous way of expressing emotion.”

LIVE TONIGHT: MISS VELVET

"Miss Velvet sits in a whimsical universe - one that's raw and somewhere in between dreams and nightmares."

Looking to catch some live music tonight? With the sensual romance of Lana del Dey and the vocal soul of Jim Morrison, Miss Velvet creates dreamy tracks sparking with 70s spirit -- a time when artists were all about THE MUSIC. I was lucky to catch her last year when she performed LIVE at The Box on the Lower East Side. Kicking off the summer with some new tracks in tow, Miss Velvet is hitting up the stage again -- this time at Rockwood Music Hall. It's impossible to watch this velvet goddess perform and not instantly become infatuated with her as she sways to the sounds, long hair flowing wildy -- she's a nostalgic and neoteric experience all at once. See Miss Velvet LIVE tonight, July 15th, at Rockwood Music Hall, 196 Allen Street, New York, NY, Stage 2 @ 9:30 PM. -- it's a show you won't want to miss!

SHOPPING SCENE: MIXOLOGY

MIXOLOGY

1467 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10028

So stoked to have popped by the opening of Mixology last week, a contemporary women's boutique that's bringing some edge to the Upper East Side! I am often more of a thrift/vintage shopper because I don't have the budget for designer duds and hate to spend $$$ on low quality pieces, but this store has the best of both sides -- cool, unique options almost all under $100. SCORE. Not to mention buyers out of Los Angeles that give this trendy spot a lil West-Coast flair.

Whitney Port was on deck to host the event with Kiara Horwitz of KHPR

DJ HUDA kept the vibe going with killer beats

ART: FIRST SHOW / LAST SHOW @ 190 Bowery

MAY 19th, 5PM-8PM, at 190 Bowery, New York, NY 10012

"Vito Schnabel is pleased to announce the opening of FIRST SHOW / LAST SHOW, a group exhibition at 190 Bowery on May 16th, 2015. Featured artists include Joe Bradley, Dan Colen, Jeff Elrod, Ron Gorchov, Mark Crotjahn, Harmony Korine, and Julian Schnabel. The artists included in FIRST SHOW / LAST SHOW are seven of my favorite painters. I have had the privilege of living with some of their works and have long wanted to show them together. There are very few artists whose work immediately conveys its significance, like each of these seven. They represent three generations of great American contemporary art, ranging in age from 35 to 85" -- Aly Rosen

ART: 60 AMERICANS

MAY 21st - JUNE 14th, at Elga Wimmer Gallery, 526 W. 26th St,  New York, NY 10001

’60 Americans’ is a response to the ill-gotten gains of flipper based collectors, money corrupted and trend obsessed gallerists, shopping mall (puppy mill/factory) inspired art fairs, nepotism and favoritism of the made men and women of fast track MFA programs in America. This exhibition will offer an alternative perspective on what’s arguably relevant and important in the current landscape of American contemporary art. Check it out to see the latest work from one of our CULT chat features, Adam Krueger
