WHAT'S UP IN NEW YORK CITY ART, MUSIC, & FASHION

CULT EDITOR'S TOP EVENTS TO HIT THIS WEEK

ART SHOW: RAW POP

APR 16th, 7PM - 10PM at Castle Fitzjohns Gallery, 98 Orchard Street, New York, NY 10002

"Raw Pop" is an exploration of four very different interpretations of referencing and incorporating popular culture within visual art. Featuring one of my favorite street artists, Whisbe, the show will also include works by Sam Tufnell, Bradley Hart, and Guy Stanley Philoche. Opening Reception, Thursday April 16th 7-10pm.

In today's art world many works of "Pop" art are labelled as Neo Pop, Post Pop etc, basically anything with bright colors that's a visual derivative of Warhol, Lichtenstein, Indiana.  "Raw Pop" features the work of four artists who strip back the Pop genre to its roots and incorporate popular culture within their art from a strong conceptual position, but with four very clever, very different interpretations. Show closes May 13th 2015.

FASHION FILM: DIOR & I

NOW through APRL 16th at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, 70 Lincoln Center Plaza, New York, NY

"Much like his debut Diana Vreeland. The Eye Has to Travel, Frederic Tcheng's sophomore documentary, and his first as a solo director, offers audiences a privileged and thorough glimpse into the inner workings of the fashion industry -- in this case, the hallowed, 69-year old house of Christian Dior. Tcheng's observant camera spends nearly as much time with the atelier's master seamstresses as it does with Dior's new head designer Raf Simons, the visionary Belgian modernist tasked with restoring the house following the catastrophic exit of disgraced former Creative Director John Galliano. Dior and I's fascination with its subject is nothing short of infectious." - Film Society At Lincoln Center. Tickets and showtimes here

Lately I've seen everyone on Instagram hash tagging #100dayproject and was inspired to do my own! Each week when I pick my looks for an editorial or style feature, there's always a lot of inspiration behind them -- mostly from style icons past. Instead of keeping all the references in my head, I'm illustrating and collaging my story boards to correspond with each look to get myself back in the art game.  Blending Jackie O chic with Farrah Fawcett cool and a touch of Bardot sensuality, this week I'm channeling the more preppy side of the 70's. Flares CAN be sleek rather than hippie boho if you add classic touches like stripes, navy, and camel!

SAN HOLO - REMIX GENIUS

I have to thank my Barry's Bootcamp coach for not only getting my bootay into summer shape but for introducing me to my new favorite remix artist -- SAN HOLO! I barely realized I was dying on the treadmill because I was so distracted by how kick ass his remix of Outkast's Ms. Jackson is! Check it out and a few other favs of mine below (We clearly share a love for early 00s pop hop):
